A pneumatic air winch is a kind of winch that uses compressed gas provided by an air compressor as the power source. Compared with traditional electric winches, pneumatic air winches are explosion-proof, dust-proof, and liquid splash-proof. They can better adapt to work in harsh environments. So, they are widely used in metal mines, coal mines, mining fields, and construction projects to transport mine cars and lift and pull tools, equipment, and other heavy objects in narrow lanes underground, as well as hoisting drill rods and heavy objects on offshore, land and oil field drilling platforms.
Pneumatic air winches comprise pneumatic motors, reducers, brakes, clutches, drums, overload protection devices, and control valves. The traction force is 200 kg, 500 kg, 1T, 2T, 3T, and 5T, and the traction length can reach 350 meters.

What’s the advantage of a pneumatic air winch?
- Pneumatic air winches are compact, fast, portable, and powerful, and can be accurately controlled when lifting heavy objects. By using thickened and strengthened reels, users can be provided with safer operation, and large reels also have a wider range of applications. The thickened base adopts a welded structure, which has stronger stability, higher safety, and durability to prevent loosening.
- The pneumatic motor used by the pneumatic winch hoist has a certain self-locking function. The air inlet and outlet chambers are closed when the operating handle returns to the middle position. At this time, the pneumatic-driven winch is in a lifting state, and the heavy object can be reliably stationary.
- The pneumatic lifting winch uses wind pressure as power, not electricity, and can avoid electric sparks when working.
- The pneumatic lifting winch also has a self-locking function, and the runaway phenomenon will not occur in the case of sudden air failure.
- The pneumatic winch can be controlled by the operating handle with stepless speed. The pneumatic motor has a low speed, high torque, easy installation, easy movement, and convenient and simple operation.
- The pneumatic winch can be directly installed and used on the mining and excavation working faces with compressed air systems.
- The pneumatic winch hoist is small in size, light in weight, has large traction, is energy-saving, environmentally friendly, pollution-free, and is conducive to improving the underground working environment.
- The operation is simple, requiring only simple forward and backward control, which reduces the labor intensity of the staff
Precautions for using pneumatic air winches
To ensure safe use, the breaking tension of the wire rope equipped with the pneumatic winch is generally about 5 times the load bearing capacity. That is, if the load is 10KN, the breaking tension of the wire rope must reach at least 50KN to ensure the safety of operation. In addition, pneumatic components (air filter, air oiler, air pressure regulator) need to be installed during use. The air oiler must be installed in front of the air inlet of the machine body.
Regular maintenance of pneumatic air winches
- When the power is off, the material lifted by the pneumatic air winch should be slowly lowered to the bottom of the inclined shaft (or slope). Regular maintenance is required to prohibit hanging the material on the half slope.
- The wire rope used for the pneumatic winch should be checked once a day.
- The pneumatic winch should be inspected in detail before each shift. It should not be used before the problem is solved;
- The pneumatic winch should have a double brake device, which should be able to act separately or simultaneously to ensure the safety of the winch.
- There should be clear signals for lifting and transportation. During the operation, the driver should be assigned a special person. Generally, he should be trained in operation before he can take up the position of driver. Non-drivers are not allowed to perform lifting operations.
